Happy new year

Lis moi avec webReader
On this brand new year, I'd like to wish to everyone a Happy new year, with or whithout magic : health, prosperity and happiness for everyone.
Our favorite format is shifting here in France, since we banned Frantic Search, SkullClamp, Sol ring and Strip Mine. Brand new decks are showing up, and fighting along to become new archetypes.
I'm going to present some of these decks.

UG Tempo

Control are, to the least, quite rare in Peasant Magic. As in its older brother, some of you might have heard of as "Legacy" format, decks tend to be explosive combo or aggro, sometimes something in between.

There are two control decks in the format. You already know the first, shown in these columns as Iso MUC. Here is the other one, in its more recent and evoluted form.

Altar of Storm

Lis moi avec webReader

Banning Tendrils of Agony made a void that many players wanted to fill in with new combos decks. This one is based on Myr Retriever sacrified on an Ashnod's Altar to generate infinite Storm count for a deadly Grapeshot.

You could see Christophe Deslandes and Chris Morling comments about my Tortured existence deck. I worked on these and tried to update the list with new releases from Time Spiral and Planar Chaos.

Everybody knows the Mono Red Control, based on Burn spells and at least one Isochron Scepter. Another deck follows the same way, but it's blue.

Satin doll

Lis moi avec webReader
A fellow frenchman once built a deck before a major tournament. When I mean "before", it reads : "the night before". He created a brand new standard deck from an old concept.

Deckbuilder was Antoine Ruel, and the tournament was PT Honolulu 2006. The standard deck was Owling mine, and reached top 8. Can you copy/paste the concept of bouncing in ordre to make damage through an artifact ?

Time spiral brings a lot of new cards (does it ? ;). GOOD new ones. PEZ usable new ones. Some might even give birth to brand new decks, such as this one.

Life

Lis moi avec webReader
A lot of common cards offer to gain a few life points.
Making a deck out of these is a waste of time : what can a healing salve do against a Tendrils of Agony boosted with a 8+ Storm ?
Here's the way of the life deck : Combo !

Paradise Medics are back

Lis moi avec webReader

I built this deck a few days ago. It intends to control the board and draw before combo off with the Freed from the Real + Paradise Mantle + Goblin Medics combo.

The built was good but hasn't any sideboard yet. So i designed one, which impacted the main deck.

Old overview and new ideas

Lis moi avec webReader

This old (2002) article at Game players network is definitely out of date. It's overall presentation of the format includes some mistakes, such as the strip mine still listed as a common, and "powerhouses cards" such as... desert.

But don't stop at this : Jason Chapman is no newcomer to PEZ, and since then, he has been writing for the format. If not the best, he's definitely one of the most active writers.

The many deck lists are more interesting. Even without some real and current top tier deck 1, it's still a nice source of inspiration for alternate lists.
